A fine , fresh essentailly as new exmaple in dust jacket. Hardcover. 368 pp. Illustrated with maps. Scaolarly reappraisal of the period often referred to as the Golden Age of the Roman Empire (31 B.C to 193 A.D.). A book in three parts, the first covers the expansion and consolidation of the Roman Empire; the second discusses the present state of research and some of the controversies that have ariosen (e.g. the notion of slavery, colonizarion, oscial tensions); the final part comprises a detailed and comprehensive bibliography which has been thoroughly updated since the original French edition.
