Burbank, CA: Warner Brothers, 1985. Two Early Draft scripts for the 1992 film, preceding release by seven years. Developed by Larry McMurtry for singer John Cougar Mellencamp in an acting role for that entire period, and McMurtry is credited both here and in the final film credits.

Rock singer Mellencamp made his screen and directorial debut in this story by author-screenwriter McMurtry. A big-time country music star returns to his family's home in Indiana for his grandfather's birthday party and decides home is where he belongs. He begins an affair with his older brother's wife and goes to work on ruining all he has ever worked for. Purportedly very similar to Mellencamp's own life.

Set in Doak City, Indiana, filmed on location in Seymour, Indiana.
