D'Antoni was a major figure in 1970s New Hollywood Cinema, as the producer of "Bullitt" (1968), "The French Connection" (1972), and "The Seven-Ups" (1973).

Director William Friedkin made his name with this gritty adaptation of Robin Moore's nonfiction account of east coast drug trafficking. Perhaps the greatest of the many 1970s crime films that were shot on location in New York City, with glorious period detail in nearly every frame. Winner of five Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Director.

Bound in full blue leather, with gilt titles and rule. Title page present, noted as REV. APRIL 26, 1981, with credits for screenwriter Ernest Tidyman and producer Philip D'Antoni. Eight pages toward the beginning of the script marked as Revised 3/23/71. All pages on white stock. Approximately 153 leaves, rectos only. Last page of text is numbered [110], followed by 41 blank leaves. Xerographic duplication, rectos only. Pages Very Good plus, lightly soiled to the bottom right corner of the first three leaves, binding Near Fine.

The screenplay was written by author Ernest Tidyman, one year after the publication of his seminal Harlem-based crime novel, "Shaft."
