Vintage sheet music for the title song of the 1968 Broadway musical, here from the pre-Broadway engagement of the musical at the Shubert Theatre in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with credits for Terrence McNally (who would have his name removed from credits prior to the Broadway opening night) and choreography and musical staging by Hanya Holm, who would be replaced by Tony Mordente for the Broadway engagement.

The musical opened on March 3, 1968 at the Billy Rose Theatre, and closed after one performance and twenty previews.

Based on the 1952 novel "East of Eden" by John Steinbeck. Elia Kazan directed the classic 1955 film adaptation, starring James Dean and Julie Harris.

Limiting itself to the period of Steinbeck's novel between 1915 and 1917, the musical focuses on patriarch Adam Trask's relationship to his twin sons Caleb and Aron.

Set in the farmlands of Salinas, California.
