Fantasy and science fiction writer Gene Wolfe (b. 1931) has written a plethora of novels and short stories, and he is best known for "The Book of the New Sun" series; his works have garnered many awards, including the Nebula Award and the World Fantasy Award. This limited edition of "Free Live Free", nominated for the Nebula Award in 1986, contains full-page illustrations by Rick DeMarco, whose use of line conveys a playful grittiness to the rendering of Wolfe's characters.

___DESCRIPTION: Full purple cloth, facsimile of Gene Wolfe's signature in silver on the front board, silver lettering on the spine, black-and-white illustrations at the head of each chapter by Rich Schindler, full-page black-and-white illustrations throughout by Rick DeMarco; quarto size (10.25" by 7"), pagination: [i-viii] 1-496, one of 750 copies, this no. 398, signed by Gene Wolfe, Carl Lundgren, Richard A. Schindler and Rick DeMarco on the front free endpaper. In a dust jacket with wraparound colour illustration by Carl Lundgren, with red lettering on the front panel and spine, a description of the book with author photograph on the front flap, and publisher information on the rear flap; the dust jacket is unclipped with the original price of $45 on the front flap.

___CONDITION: A fine copy; the covers clean, the corners straight and unrubbed, the binding tight with solid hinges, the interior clean and bright, and free of prior owner markings; clean, crisp, as new. The dust jacket is fine also, unclipped, clean with bright colours, with a few tiny spots of wear to the head and tail of the spine and to the corners, else fine.
