New York: Stokes, 1937. 1st ed. Hardcover. Fine. Lathrop, Dorothy. Second state with the artist's name correctly spelled on the spine of both book and jacket, 4to, full blue-green cloth stamped in bright gilt. Text selected by Helen Dean Fish. Winner of the first Caldecott award. Signed by Lathrop on the verso of the front free endpaper, neat owner's name and date (1939) printed in green ink on decorated front free endpaper. Light toning throughout to margins, else a fine bright copy in near fine, unclipped dj with darkened spine and tiny chips to spine ends. signed by the artist.
Synopsis
Animals of the Bible is a book illustrated by Dorothy P. Lathrop with text compiled by Helen Dean Fish. Released by J. B. Lippincott Company, it was the first recipient of the Caldecott Medal for illustration in 1938.
