About This Item

Washington DC: National Park Service, Division of Publications, Dept of the Interior, 1975. First Edition Paperback. Paperback. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7?" - 9?" tall. First Edition Trade Paperback in Very Good Condition. Clean and unmarked, gently used book with a whisper of wear to cover edges. Maps, full color and b/w illustrations throughout. The Big Bend, an account of human society in one of the most rugged and remote parts of this country, is the collaborative work of the National Park Service, U.S.Dept. of the Interior, and the Amon Carter Museum of Western Art, Fort Worth, Texas. Amon Carter was among the first Texans to recognize the wild beauty of the Big Bend and the opportunity it offered to preserve intact important remnants of the last Texas frontier. Ron Tyler, Curator of History at the Amon Center, discovered this himself as he was exploring the history of the Mexican border. His narrative combines an understanding of the region's physcal setting with a clear description of its exploration and settlement. It covers 400 years of Big Bend history. 288 pages with a section on the Historic Sites of Big Bend, Bibliographical Essay, Notes and Index. 6 x 9 inches. 1975, National Park Service, Division of Publications, Dept of the Interior, Washington DC
