Boston: The Page Company, 1914 First Printing in gilt-stamped & elaborately-decorated full blue cloth, the former copy of noted early California socialite Margaret Rishel Sartori with her bookplate to front pastedown (now fallen loose & laid in), no markings, NOT ex-lib, minor shelf wear to boards with rubbed wear & very beginnings of fraying to ends & corners, last white page torn with half-inch portion missing at foredge, hinges tight pages bright clean & unfoxed, color folding map present & in great shape as are all 72 plates, the 8 color with captioned tissue guards intact; Margaret Sartori was the wife of prominent early California banker, Joseph Francis Sartori, founder of what would eventually become Security Pacific Bank, one of the nation's largest banks before its merger with Bank of America in 1992; Margaret, a leading social figure in Southern California life at the turn of the last century, was a Regent of the University of California as well as part of the UC Berkeley Faculty Club, the Town & Country Club and many other blue blood associations; she founded the Friday Morning Club and was its President Emeritus until her death; this copy bears the card pocket and 'Date Due' slip (to the rear endpages) of The Friday Morning Club library, which she added to the club from her private collection; an exceptionally nice copy with unique associations to a prominent early California family; sm 4to; 433pp indexed & illus; illustrated endpapers; color frontispiece..
