Garden City, NY: Doubleday, Doran & Company, Inc., 1929., 1929.. Good. SIGNED WITH AN ORIGINAL SKETCH BY CARVETH WELLS - Octavo, 8-1/4 inches high by 5-3/4 inches wide. Hardcover, bound in blue cloth with the image of an elephant stamped in orange on the front cover and titled in orange on the spine, in a color pictorial dust wrapper by Kurt Wiese. Wells' own map for "In Coldest Africa" is reproduced on the yellow endpapers. The edges of the book's covers are darkened and the head of the spine is darkened. The edges of the soiled dust jacket are chipped with a small piece out from the head of the jacket's spine. The jacket's spine is also darkened with a small hole below the title. xvi, [10] & pages 3-255, illustrated with 16 photographic plates, 2 textual sketches and a facsimile of Wells' "Field Book No. 1". Very good in a good dust wrapper.

First edition, so stated. SIGNED BY CARVETH WELLS WITH A SMALL SKETCH OF AN ELEPHANT.

"Carveth Wells...now writes about his African adventures on the Mountains of the Moon. As head of the Massee expedition which went out under the auspices of the Geographical Society of Chicago, Mr. Wells had opportunity to disprove many of the venerable axioms about the dark continent." - from the dust wrapper copy. The Mountains of the Moon as referred to by Wells are the Rwenzori Range.
