A collected edition of Richmond's stories of village life, first published in 1814 under the title of Annals of the Poor .Scarce in this edition published by Hatchard, a new edition, enlarged and illustrated with a frontispiece portrait engraving of author The first publication with An Introductory Sketch of the Author by the Rev. John Ayre, A. M. dated Feb. 21st, 1828. Legh Richmond (1772 - 1827) was an English divine. He was powerfully influenced by William Wilberforce's Practical View of Christianity, and took a prominent interest in the British and Foreign Bible Society, the Church Missionary Society and similar institutions. The best known of his writings is The Dairyman's Daughter, an early 19th century Christian religious booklet of 52 pages, which had a remarkably wide distribution and influence. It was a narrative of the religious experience of Elizabeth Wallbridge, who was the person after whom the book was named. With an ink inscription to front blank Handsomely rebound in a quarter calf binding. Externally, smart with only minor wear to extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Bright but with tidemarks to first few pages and other plates, with the occasional spot and handling mark to pages. With marginal off-setting from binding to original front blank. This edition is priced to reflect the many fine prints by Birket Foster
