Originally published in 1959 under the title House of Shade, this edition was lightly revised by the author. 270pp. In green cloth boards with gilt lettering (cloth a little rounded at spine ends). Internally neat, clean bright and tight. In its original dust jacket (lightly bumped on edges). 8vo. Kaye is perhaps best known for her first novel, The Far Pavilions, but this too is a minor classic providing a vivid image of its setting, Zanzibar, in a time gone by.
