Very good, both volumes in brown full-leather binding (some wear and scuffing), cover blind-ruled with small gilt pressed design in corners; gilt spine titling on dark brown plates on ribbed spine. Text blocks firm, with brown marbled pastedowns, pages unmarked and crisp; brown edges.. 8vo (230 x 150 / 9"" x 6""). John Pearson (1613-1686) was an English clergyman in the seventeenth century, regarded as one of the most erudite theologians of the era, becoming Lady Margaret's Professor of Divinity at Cambridge as well as Master of Jesus College and then Trinity College, before becoming Bishop of Chester. His Exposition of the Creed is highly regarded as a work of English dogmatic theology.
