About This Item
London: Hamish Hamilton, 1976. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 8.75 x 5.5. Jacket design by Laszlo Acs. The interior of the book is crisp and clean, without even the name of a former owner. The burgundy cloth covers are similarly fresh, with minor wear at tips and corners. The dust jacket is not price-clipped, and is also in excellent condition. A lovely copy. Synopsis: Set on the Rye Marshes in the first years of the 19th century, this is the story of Jessamy Brandon, who had loved Kit for as long as she could remember. She had always supposed him to be the son of her Uncle Matthew, landlord of the Five Fathoms, but a discovery in Rye Churchyard one day turned her world upside-down. For her real cousin Kit lay long dead under the ivy-clad tombstone, and the Kit she knew and loved claimed to be the vanished son of King Louis XVI of France. This startling discovery heralded a whole string of sinister and dangerous events.
