About This Item

Near fine, an unusually fresh set, in publisher's elaborate decorated cloth; first edition thus. Contains over 300 spectacular colour plates, illustrating 1500+ species, including tissue-guarded frontispieces (tissue lacking in vol.1).

Missing 3" from decorative red on-lay of title-border of vol.2; vol.4 with some bubbling to front cover; a little rubbing to gilt stamped spines, and minor creasing to ends. All edges gilt, a couple vols. with one or two plates protruding slightly; vol.4 a little loose; light foxing to some plates and adjacent pages.

This is a six volume expansion of the author's 1855 SPCK five volume Flowering Plants of Great Britain.
