Very scarce first edition of this historical study of Henry IV and the Catholic League by Martha Walker Freer. Complete in two volumes. A very scarce first edition. Part I of three of Martha Walker Freer's study of the reign of Henry IV of France, these volumes concerning the history of Henry IV and the Catholic League of France. A study opening with the death of King Henry III and concluding in 1594, year in which the League recognised Henry IV as king of France.Illustrated with a frontispiece to each volume. Martha Walker Freer was an English writer on French history. She authored works such Marguerite d'Angoulême and Jeanne d'Albret. In the original publisher's uniform full cloth bindings. Externally sound with some shelf wear, lightly bumped to head and tail of spine and extremities, chipped to head and tail of spine, joints only starting, boards holding firm, general light soiling and marking to boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally very clean throughout with occasional light minor spotting to odd leaf. Good
