First edition copies of parts one and two of Bent's ornithological work on North American shore birds, bound together in a half morocco binding. First edition copies of two parts bound in one volume, in a half morocco binding with the original paper wraps bound in to the rear. Top edge gilt.Illustrated with fifty-five black-and-white plates to part one and sixty-six black-and-white plates to part two. Collated, complete.Arthur Cleveland Bent (1866-1954) was an American ornithologist. This volume contains parts one and two of 'Life Histories of North American Shore Birds' which was part of his encyclopedic 21-volume work, Life Histories of North American Birds, published between 1919 and 1968 and completed posthumously. It is a comprehensive work detailing the habits and distribution of various species of North American shore birds.  These parts were published for the Smithsonian Institution as Bulletins 142 and 146. In a half morocco binding. Externally very smart, with rubbing to the lower extremities only. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are a little age toned but are clean, except for the odd spot to the first and last couple of pages. Very Good Indeed
