London: The Nonesuch Press, 1930. Limited edition. Hardcover. g. 1185/1600 hand numbered. Octavo. 96 (2)pp. Natural quarter cloth over yellow cloth boards with gilt lettering on black label of spine. Publisher's device on title page. "The stories and sketches in this book were among the things written by Lawrence in July and August of 1912. Later they were sent to my father, who tried without success to place them. After Lawrence's death they were brought to me to publish: and they aroused vivid memories of my twentieth year. For I had read 'Love Among the Haystacks' in manuscript when it was written, and I had been with Lawrence into "The Chapel Among the Mountains', and slept out with him in 'The Hay-hut Among the Mountains'. The tickling of the hay, the crashing thunder, and the bitter cold of the winds sweeping off the glaciers all came back to me." (David Garnett). Contains also the story "Once." Binding somewhat browned along edges and rubbed. Black label on spine with small chips. Block uncut at foredge and slightly age-toned. Binding and interior in overall good condition.
