NYC: Wm C. Popper & Co, 1939. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Soft cover. Very Good/No Jacket. A ONE of a KIND Treasure! The 1939 Souvenir Program was printed following Marian Anderson's historic concert at The Lincoln Memorial on April 9, 1939. It is **SIGNED** directly on the Title page by BOTH Miss Anderson and her accompanist, the famed pianist Franz Rupp! It in VG condition with minor wear along the edges. The concert cover is the gold and black version. There are multiple B/W pictures, including the artist with her mother at the foot of the Lincoln Statue and her receiving the NAACP Springarn Medal from First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. Her biography, the story of the historic concert and the lyrics of her songs are also included. All in all, a thrilling and very rare historic document of a courageous, deeply spiritual and exceptionally gifted and talented American woman. Note: A page is cut from the program, a reproduction of which is provided with the program. The mystery of the missing page was solved thanks to the online Penn Libraries "Discovering Marian Anderson" Collection, donated by the contralto's nephew conductor James DePreist. The collection includes the identical program though without the signatures. We were then able to deduce which page was cut out of our copy. On the front side of the deleted page was a photo and biography of the Finnish pianist-composer Kosti Vehanan. He was reported to be her accompanist at the Lincoln Memorial Concert, as well as for other professional appearances. On the other side are two photos: one with her chatting with Mayor Fiorello Laguardia, and a second featuring Ms. Anderson and her impresario Sol Hurok. Our best guesses are 1) the concert promoters snipped out the photo for an upcoming concert out of deference to Franz Rupp, her accompanist for the evening (Which would explain why his autograph is present along with the singer's) or 2) the former owner of this brochure, having obtained the Rupp autograph, the scissored out the confusing photo page of Vehanan. Final note: during African-American Month, your local PBS will be showcasing the just released 2022 American Masters documentary "Marian Anderson: The Whole World in Her Hands."

London: Printed for Thomas Wilcox, 1757. First Edition. Boards. Good. 4to. Nineteenth-century half-calf over marbled boards. xii, 255pp. Front board detached along with first two endpapers. Endpapers not original, added later. Some unobtrusive foxing throughout. Lacks the folding frontispiece. Interior is excellent and otherwise complete. This is a rare first edition of the "first and classic history of New York" (Streeter). A foundational text for any collection of books about New York or American colonial history, based on the official records of the administration of New York and on the earlier works of Colden and Charlevoix. The first edition covers history to the year 1732, though later reprints extended this coverage further. Smith was a British loyalist during the Revolutionary War who fled New York for Quebec City, where he became chief justice for all of Lower Canada throughout the late 18th century. Says Larned: "Within the period subsequent to the English Revolution, Smith is still…

Bruxelles: Librairie historique-artistique, 1843. First edition. 4 large in-8 volumes, (270 mm x 170 mm). Midnight blue half-sheepskin binding, embossed percaline covers, spines have gilt titles and decoration. Illustrated with hand coloured / hand finished engraved plates. These were created by the leading illustrators of the time, including Duverger, L. Markaert, R. King. The bindings are in very good condition, with a little rubbing to the edges only. Inside, the text and plates have light foxing throughout, but are overall in very good condition. Each copy online offers a different number of plates for each of the four volumes - but our copy seems to match the maximum collation for each variation (so seems complete.) The index is of limited use, as it only lists a proportion of the plates. In addition to the four title vignettes, we have: Europe (1844). 364 pages, 49 plates; Asie (1845). 592 pages, 82 plates; L'Afrique et l'Amérique (1844), 368 pages, 43 plates; l'Océanie (1845) 368 pages…

Printed Privately. Confidential.,1909. FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 56pp. One of only 250 copies privately printed by R. & R. Clark of Edinburgh. Inscribed by Shaw on the half title page to Frances Noyes Hart; "The Committee refused to accept this statement; and there was a very pretty row about it which is fully described in the preface to the Shewing up of Blanco Posnet. G. Bernard Shaw. London. 3rd Oct. 1931. To Frances Noyes Hart". A fine copy in original blue stiff card wrappers printed in black to upper cover. Housed in a blue vellum chemise which is lettered in gilt, reproducing the exact lettering, even using the same typeface, as the printed front cover. This is then housed in a quarter green morocco slip case with raised bands and gilt rules and lettering to the spine. The slip case is rubbed and worn but has done its job of keeping the booklet and chemise in fine condition. Frances Noyes Hart was an American short story writer. She became famous after winning the Pulizer prize for her 1927 Crime…

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1922. Signed and Numbered First. Hardcover. Very Good with no dust jacket/No Dustjacket. From the signed, limited, numbered first printing, this is number 266, signed by the author at the limitation page opposite the full title. The pages are bright saving some toning around the deckled edges and quite clean except for a very few scattered spots of foxing; no owners' marks; the quarter cloth binding leans gently to the right but remains tight; the paper boards and paper title plate at the spine show some chipping around the edges, with a pressure mark at the bottom right front corner, a small inward turn and surface scuff at the top left rear corner, and some surface creasing at the corners and right edge of the title plate; some fading is also evident along the head edges of the paper and along the right rear, and the title plate is age-toned; nonetheless, a remarkably clean and attractive book, well-preserved. 459pp.; an extra copy of the title plate is tipped in at the…

1895 ENORMOUS 1ed Classical MUSIC Handel Haydn MOZART Beethoven Seidl ART 10vAnton Seidl was a 17th-century Hungarian orchestra conductor who was known for his interpretation of Wagnerian operas. However, aside from his conducting, he published an enormous work on the history and analysis of music. This work offered the essays and articles of notable music historians each of which described topics such as Italian opera, the quality of the male vocal range, great violin performers, Romanic school of composition, American composers, and much, much more!
In addition to superb articles, this mammoth set contains numerous full-page and in-text engravings of famous art and paintings depicting musicians and dancers. Some volumes contain musical examples from the works of composers such as Beethoven, Mozart, Handel, and Haydn.
