London: W S Orr an Co, 1845. Fine Binding. Near Fine. 7" by 4.5". Various. A finely bound, early English translation of J M Bechstein's famed ornithological study on cage birds. This treatise on singing birds was first issued in 1795 and was translated into many languages. In a beautiful binding, with bird motifs to spine. Bechstein was concerned with wildlife conservation and wrote many works for the calling of protecting animals that were often regarded as pests such as bats. Illustrated, with a frontispiece and six plates. In a quarter morocco binding, with cloth covered boards. Externally, excellent with minor shelfwear. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with just the odd spot. Near Fine

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
