The very scarce second edition of this work.Illustrated with a folding frontispiece, one plate, twenty-one folding maps, and with a large folding table to the rear, detailing the 'Coins of all Nations', and their conversion into English currency. Collated, complete.Offering an incredibly detailed insight into the 'Present State of the Several Kingdoms of the World', including discussion of language, climate, politics and history.With a publisher's advertisement to the tail of the final leaf.With a contemporary owner's inscription in ink to the front board, and with the contemporary inscription 'Nicholas' to the front pastedown, alongside pencil inscriptions from a prior owner.The work of Scottish writer and journalist William Guthrie, who is now most remembered as a historian. This is considered to be his most important work, going through many editions until the mid-nineteenth century, and a French translation in 1801. In a full calf binding. Small losses of leather to back strip head and tail. Rubbing to joints. Two horizontal cracks to the back strip. Ink inscription to front board. Hinges strained, with front board a touch tender, and rear board firmly held. Inscription to front pastedown. Front free endpaper detached, and loosely inserted. Internally, firmly bound. Pages lightly age toned, with light handling marks throughout, and the odd spot. Major closed tear to the folding table to the rear. Small losses to the fore edge of the folding frontispiece. Good
