London : A. Millar, 1760. First edition. Paperback. Fair. 9" by 5.5". None. A first edition copy of Original Poems and Translations by James Beattie. A first edition copy of Original Poems and Translations by James Beattie, who was a Scottish poet, moralist and philosopher. His first book, published at the age of 25. Beattie later regretted it and tried to buy up the copies. Hence this is relatively rare in commerce. Some of the poems that appear in this volume are Ode to Peace, Ode to Hope, Elegy and Song in Imitations of Shakespeare, amongst others. Disbound. Externally, worn with chipping to the extremities and a tide mark to the rear wrap to page 173. Chipping to the top corner of the front wrap and a previous owner inscription to the front wrap. Contents page is loose. Pages are age toned with some spotting throughout. Fair

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
