The book ranges over such topics as jazz dance, criticism, education, and jazz in literature and films and television. This is both a reading book and a reference book. Each entry is comprehensive in itself - ranging in length from 3,500 to 5,000 words - but it also fits its subject into the larger picture of jazz.
