About This Item
London: John Churchill, 1845. 1st Edition . Hardcover. see description for condition. Red cloth with gilt sp. lettering, good library binding with no obvious faults. (8, smaller format pub.'s medicine and science catalogue) + xii + 360, fr. pastedown has large illustrated Presentation plate to Nottingham Mechanics Institution from a J. Potter Briscoe dated November 1918 plus his (presumably) small red ex-lib. label beneath it, fr. end-paper has green label of City of Nottingham Leisure and Community Service Local Studies Collection which looks very new, original light yellow blank fly leaf has number stamp and strip of brown marks, half-title has 1845 dated sig. to topt.p. has fairly faint blue lib stamp towards bottom but only one small number to verso, another number to bottom edge of text-block. While end-papers appear to be from lib. binding I am puzzled by plates to fr. pastedown which seem much earlier than this, which externally looks virtually new. Covers a whole range of medical topics including neurology (to which Hall made major contributions, notably the concept of the reflex arc, mentioned here), paediatrics, consumption and effects of tobacco, three (of the 53) chapters appear to be by others. Rare. 13 cm x 21 cm
