Utica: Pease & Co, 1855. Broadside. 16 3/4"x 6 1/2". Folds, a bit of edge wear and minor staining. A fascinating potential scam lottery broadside to promote the sale of Prof. Powers' Calendar and Lunarium. Supposedly 200,000 copies of this almanac of sorts were to be offered for $1.00 a copy. Each purchaser of the book would be entered in a lottery that offered farms, land in the west, Colton maps, gold and silver items and more with a value of $162,000. However, a caveat in the smallest of text informs people that the prices would only be awarded after the 200,000 books were sold.
