Quarto (10.75" x 8.25"); 412pp, 32 plates including frontis, 8 of which are full-color and mounted, with text ornaments and vignettes throughout. Illustrated dust jacket with bearded man peering from behind curtain to front and decomposing head surrounded by rats to spine. Boards in black cloth with mounted black and gold Morella illustration to front and gilt lettering to spine with "Brentano's" at tail. Black topstain. Sizeable patch torn away at head of spine, losing majority of title, with an adjacent tear extending onto rear panel; more shallow chipping at tail and along bottom edge, with rubbing, creasing, and a few tears along edges, corners, and along rear fold; spine panel dulled, with a very shallow dampstain visible to jacket interior over tail. Front board opens quite shakily but is holding; boards themselves edgeworn with scattered, superficial biopredation to cloth, exposure along top rear edge, and nudging at spine ends. A couple pages with closed thumb-tears to margins, not approaching texts or illustrations. Flattened crease to frontis plate. Binding is sound and pages unmarked.

Undated, with limitation statement "Of this edition twenty-five hundred copies were manufactured for the United States of America." Issued solely by Brentano's and printed in New York by the J.J. & Ives Company. Not in Steenson or BAL; likely issued near or just after the first U.S. trade edition, itself issued jointly in 1923 by Harrap and Brentano's and printed in the UK, but before the Tudor Publishing edition in 1933.
