About This Item

Da Capo Press, New York, 1989. First Edition. Softcover (Photographic). Very Good. Illustrator: Winslow Homer. Editor's foreword, acknowledgements, sources, bibliography, notes, Appendix: Whitman's Civil War poems in addition to those used in the text and index of poems. The text is illustrated 16 pages of black-and-white drawings by Winslow Homer. Photographic paperback binding with yellow and white coloured titles to the front panel and backstrip. First suggested by Walt Whitman in 1863 – a book about his Civil War experiences (including poems) but was never published in his lifetime. However, there was a framework jotted down, and, " ... from a mosaic of materials – newspaper dispatches, letters, notebooks, published and unpublished works – as well as 36 of Whitman's great War poems, Lowenfels has created a thrilling and unique document." – from the rear panel blurb. A little creasing of the book corners with a small chip to the top right-hand corner of the rear panel; the rear panel edge has a few small chips. Rubbing of the other book edges and of the panels. Age toning of the text block edges and pages. Fine foxing to the text block edges and to the first few and last few pages of the book. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [6], VII - XVI, [2], 3- 333, [3] pages,. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Illustrator: Winslow Homer. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo.
