Originally published in 1972, this is the first in a series of dialect studies by the Princeton Chinese Linguistics Project. Yue is one of the major Chinese dialect groups and Cantonese is the standard dialect in the group. The present volume surveys the phonology of Cantonese; syntax and vocabulary are dealt with in subsequent studies.
