My Babies and Me

My Babies and Me is the fifth stand-alone romance by American author, Tara Taylor Quinn. Susan Kennedy has achieved most of her resolutions by the year 2000, so now she has decided that she needs to do something about having a baby. Her ex-husband, the workaholic Michael, is the ideal candidate for the necessary biological contribution, so she propositions him. It is no great stretch: despite their divorce (for career reasons), they still have an active sex life. Michael agrees, but once Susan is pregnant, he is torn between responsibility and freedom. There is a sub-plot involving Susan’s younger brother, Seth, and his angst over a divorcee with two young children. Part of the Harlequin Mills & Boon Superromance series, this is a longer novel that would have benefitted from some judicious editing: more of the Seth sub-plot, a bit less of the (rather repetitive) anxiety from Susan and Michael. The main characters are reasonably well-developed, although somewhat frustrating in their attitudes, and their unconventional relationship is a little difficult to believe. A pleasant read.
