About This Item
New York / London: Harper & Brothers, 1900. Volume 8 only (of 13) in the Biographical Edition of Thackeray's works, first published in 1898; the scarce jacket is also dated 1900. Hardcover, full blue-green cloth, gilt titling, navy decoration, top edge gilt. Light wear to book, some waterstains, slightly affecting the front cover, but mostly to the page corners towards the beginning & ending of the book. Some sections unopened - that is, the original folds at the fore-edge remain, as the binder did not trim these edges, so these pages would need to be carefully separated with a dull knife or letter-opener to be read. Jacket stained, chipped, & torn, internally mended with archival tape, substantial loss to head of spine. Text clean; xl, 806 pages, illustrations by Richard Doyle.. Later Printing. Hard Cover. Very Good/Fair. Illus. by Richard Doyle. Octavo.
