Pebble In the Sky

By Asimov, Isaac

Pebble in the Sky is a science fiction novel by Isaac Asimov, published in 1950. This work is his first novel — parts of the Foundation series had appeared from 1942 onwards, in magazines, but Foundation was not published in book form until 1951. The original Foundation books are also a string of linked episodes, whereas this is a complete story involving a single group of characters.

The merest hint of toning to the edges of the text block, else fine in fine and bright dust jacket illustrated by Richard Powers, Doubleday's $2.50 price present, and with just the merest hint of rubbing at the spine panel ends. Pebble in the Sky

Asimov, Isaac

E-43: Doubleday. Very Good in Very Good dust jacket. 1950. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. Hardcover. 8vo. Doubleday & Company, Inc. 1950. 223 pgs. First Edition/First Printing. DJ has shelf-wear, rubbing present to the DJ especially around the extremities (light chipping present to the crown of the DJ spine). No ownership marks present. Text is clean and free of marks, binding tight and solid, boards lightly rubbed and worn. One moment Joseph Schwartz is a happily retired tailor in 1949 Chicago. The next he's a helpless stranger on Earth during the heyday of the first Galactic Empire. Earth, he soon learns, is a backwater, just a pebble in the sky, despised by all the other 200 million planets of the Empire because its people dare to claim it's the original home of man. And Earth is poor, with great areas of radioactivity ruining much of its soil, so poor that everyone is sentenced to death at the age of sixty. Joseph Schwartz is sixty-two. This is young Isaac Asimov's first novel, full of wonders and ideas, the book that launched the novels of the Galactic Empire, culminating in the Foundation books and novels. It is also one of that select group of SF adventures that since the early 1950s has hooked generations of teenagers on reading science fiction. This is Golden Age SF at its finest. E-43; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 223 pages .
