Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen - 1894

London : George Allen , 1894 A good to very good copy of the 1st publication of the 'Peacock Edition' of Pride and Prejudice with illustrations by Hugh Thomson. In the original green decorative cloth binding with spectacular gilt peacock design to front board and gilt designs to spine. Aeg. With numerous black and white illustrations by Thomson. The binding has been rebacked preserving the original spine which had small loss at the top spine end. It is sound and tight. The gilt is slightly dulled on the front board and more so on the spine. Back board has a couple of paler marks. Corners are lightly turned. Internally there is an inscription dated May 1895 at the half title page. Contents are clean and complete with light toning to page edges and to the tissue guard at the frontispiece. There is the occasional small mark.
