Samuel Griswold Goodrich was an American author, better known under the pseudonym Peter Parley. Goodrich wrote a number of historical works – works on United States history, natural history, and history of animals. However, he also wrote a lesser known work on the history of Asia.
'Lights and Shadows of Asiatic History' is a 19th-century account of the history of the most iconic Asian cultures and peoples. He describes Babylon, Persia, Jews in Israel, China, Iran, Turks and many others. Interestingly, this work discusses the most notable figures in Asian history such as Genghis Khan, Mahmud of Ghanzi, and Zoroaster, as well as the Chinese voyages of Marco Polo.
