Brown, Former library copy with ONLY a small 1/5" x 2" pasted-in paper with handwritten catalogue and accession numbers. Beautifully rebound by 19th century British binder W.T. (William Turner) Morrell (signed upper left corner FFEP) half speckled calf, stone marbled boards, with contrasting maroon spine label. Five raised bands (six compartments, each with floriated design in gilt). a 1.5"-wide band of scuffing to front and rear boards, light rubbing to extremities. [16], 318, [2]. LACKS the two folding maps (Nantucket and Martha's Vinyard). Sabin 17946; Howes C-883. Lovely, tight, clean and affordable early copy of one of the most important works of American Literature. Though edited by a French writer, "considered one of the foundational works of American literature. "Description of American life of great influence in attracting European immigration in the post-revolutionary period. As literature, unexcelled by any American work of the eighteenth century." (Howes C-883).
