Text clean and unmarked.
Taking their cue from the socialist-feminist book 'Beyond the Fragments: Feminism and the Making of Socialism' (1979), on 30 August 1980, 3,000 mainly women activists gathered at Leeds University for the Beyond the Fragments conference - amongst them revolutionary socialists, feminists, anarchists, Labour members, community activists, trade unionists and students. Only a year earlier Margaret Thatcher, Britain's first woman prime minister, had defeated a Labour government and immediately launched a series of attacks on the unions, driving up unemployment, deepening the economic recession, and enacting a wave of anti-union laws.
A 'Fragments' network continued until the mid-1980s when it merged with the Socialist Society and members participated in the Chesterfield and Sheffield Socialist Conferences. The ideas behind Beyond the Fragments encouraged the development of new approaches to socialism and left organising.

Description:
Paper age-toned, with tears and chipping to the top edges. Light spots of foxing. Central vertical crease.
An address issued by the Church Association, dated June 1902 (2nd thousand), promoting its political organisation which had already a presence in 225 out of 443 English constituencies. It seeks more electors to add their names to the "Protestant Roll", being a pledge to "put his Protestantism before mere Party questions at the Polling Booth."
The Church Association was an English evangelical Anglican organisation founded in 1865. It was particularly active in opposition to Anglo-Catholicism, ritualism, and the Oxford Movement. Founded in 1865 by Richard P. Blakeney, the association stated in its first annual report that the objectives of the association were, "To uphold the principles and order of the United Church of England and Ireland, and to counteract the efforts now being made to assimilate her services to those of the Church of Rome."

Hernando (Ferdinand) Colon was Christopher Columbus's youngest son. His life of his father was written at a time when his father's legacy was under serious challenge from many quarters, including the court of the Spanish Crown. These attempts to diminish Columbus's role as the primary discoverer of the New World also presented a threat to the fortunes and future legacy of the wider Columbus family.
Hernando is the major source of information concerning his father's life and voyages, especially his fourth voyage to the New World. He accompanied his father on his fourth… Read More

Edouard Gourdon (1820-1869) was a journalist and author of news books, essays and novels. At the time of writing reference to the "treizième arrondissement" (i.e. the 13th district of Paris) was a coloquialism referring to those living together unmarried, " Ils se mariés à la mairie du 13e " (i.e. they were married at the - non-existent - 13th district town hall) - a state of relations much moralised against. This being the case, especially in 'good society', the enlargement of Paris to include a treizième arrondissement was delayed until 1860. As was written in Le Figaro of 12 October 1859, " Helas ! ce treizieme arrondissement, il est partout, et on… Read More
