No binding. Fine. Fine Art Print Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston (playwrights) New York: Lincoln Center Theater, 1991. Vintage original 22 x 14"" (56 x 36 cm.) poster, USA. Artwork by James McMullen. Archivally mounted on artboard, FINE. Due to an acrimonious falling out between Hughes and Hurston, it took six decades for this play about African American life in '20s rural Florida to finally get its world premiere. ""Mule Bone: A Comedy of Negro Life is a 1930 play by American authors Langston Hughes and Zora Neale Hurston. The process of writing the play led Hughes and Hurston, who had been close friends, to sever their relationship. Mule Bone was not staged until 1991, when it was produced in New York City by the Lincoln Center Theater. ""Hughes and Hurston began writing Mule Bone in March 1930. They wanted to write a comedy about African-American life that didn't consist of racial stereotypes. Mimeograph on blue paper, with some scattered MS revisions in Cohen's hand, and a few pages of revisions on onionskin paper. An unproduced screenplay for the life of Margaret Sanger. Margaret Sanger (1879-1966) was an American nurse who became a birth control activist, sex educator, writer, and speaker. She is credited with popularizing the term ""birth control."" Marcia Cohen's screenplay dramatizes Sanger's life from roughly 1914 through 1916, the period when she first became a public figure. The screenplay begins in a New York City tenement in 1914 where young nurse, Margaret Sanger, is treating a married woman who is dying due to a… Read More

No binding. Very Good. Fine Art Print Vintage original 12 x 8"" (30 x 20 cm.) midget/mini window card poster, USA. Bette Davis, Humphrey Bogart, Lola Lane, Isabel Jewell, Mayo Methot, Jane Bryan, dir: Lloyd Bacon; Warner Brothers. Brilliant tale of hostesses told with as much candor as post-Production Code Hollywood was allowed. Working girl Bette Davis displays herself in one of her most glamorous gowns on this fine Warner Brothers poster of the period. The beaded gown (represented in red on this card) was made for her by Orry-Kelly. This is the film which marked Bette Davis' return to Warner Brothers after she walked out on the studio, fed up with the weak roles they were giving her. She got her wish in this role. Here she plays Mary Dwight, the cynical, world-weary hostess of a club run by gangsters. Living with the other hostesses of the club, her kid sister comes to visit and the truth of their means of living must be hidden. The woman are constantly being hauled into headquarters and… Read More

No binding. Fine. Fine Art Print. Vintage original 41 x 81" (103 x 203 cm.) three sheet poster on linen, USA. Steve McQueen, Robert Vaughn, Jacqueline Bisset, Don Gordon, Robert Duvall, dir: Peter Yates; Warner Brothers. Unrestored, with great, nicely matched colors and all minor original issues addressed in conservation. Fine. The classic 1960s action-crime thriller, with an iconic performance by Steve McQueen playing the San Francisco cop who becomes obsessed with finding the underground leader responsible for the deaths of witnesses in his protection. Here is one of the finest and most rare posters for this classic title. This example does not appear to have ever been used. Prior to expert linen backing, it showed only very minor shelf wear and shows just minor shelf wear, such as three minor fold juncture separations, a bit of creasing at the very edges and a few minor spots of soiling in the white background. What makes this poster particularly desirable is the fact that the colors match correctly… Read More

No binding. Very Good. Fine Art Print Vintage original 40 x 30" (100 x 75 cm.) three-sheet poster, USA. Jeff Morrow, Faith Domergue, Rex Reason, Lance Fuller, Russell Johnson, dir: Joseph M. Newman, Jack Arnold: Universal. Poster is rolled and displays a fair amount of creasing at edges, particularly at the top and bottom. There is inner creasing, more evident in the title box area. Tears at edges have been repaired with brown tape and there are a few small unrepaired edge tears. The top image portion with portrait of Domergue and Reason and the alien to the right is a pasteover and the foot area of the alien has lifted slightly, very good. One of the top science fiction classics of the 1950s. The story involved aliens coming to Earth to engage scientists in a scheme to wage war and destroy the planet. This film, made on a very modest Universal budget, was likely not really in the making for 2 years, but the studio was dissatisfied with director Newman's work and hired Jack Arnold to reshoot a great… Read More

Description:
Marc Allegret. No binding. Fine. [Paris: Marc Allegret, ca. 1950] Set of six (6) vintage original 2 1/4 x 2 1/4" (6 x 6 cm.) French photos, FINE. Brigitte Bardot at the absolute beginning of what was to be a legendary career. At the time, Bardot was either 15 or 16 (with her birthday September 28, 1934). She was the daughter of a wealthy family and had begun what might have been a career in ballet after enrolling at the Conservatoire de Paris. At this point, she caught the attention of Helene Lazareff, director of the fashion magazine ELLE, where Bardot began to appear as a model for kids' fashions. Director Marc Allegret noticed her in ELLE and asked to meet her, after which he shot these photos. Allegret's assistant at the time was none other than Roger Vadim, who eventually became her director and, for a while, her husband. Allegret then invited her to audition for his upcoming film LES LAURIES SONT COUPES. She did not get the role, but film work was to follow soon, including other films directed… Read More

[Paris: Agnès Varda, 1966]. Vintage original film script, 11 x 8 1/4" (28 x 21 cm.), Tan untitled wrappers. Title page present, with credits for director Agnès Varda. 229 leaves, with last page of text numbered 227. Mimeographed, rectos only. Pages near fine, wrapper very good, with soil to the front wrapper, bound with two gold brads. With a single holograph ink notation to the front wrapper. Laid in with the script is a set of seven typed revision pages, lightly marked with holograph ink notation checks next to each sequence, partially bound at the top left corner. Filmmaker Agnès Varda (1928-2019) is often referred to as the "grandmother" or "godmother" of the French New Wave -- a title she objected to because she was not, in fact, significantly older than her New Wave peers, Jean-Luc Godard, Francois Truffaut, Alain Resnais, et al. Regardless, Varda's debut feature, LA POINTE COURTE (1955), shot independently and on location, is now generally considered to be the first full-length film of the… Read More

Description:
Motif Editions. No binding. Fine. Andy Warhol (producer) [London]: Motif Editions, 1970. Vintage original 30 x 20" (76 x 51 cm.) British poster. Unfolded, fine. Andy Warhol's massive 3 1/2-hour film Chelsea Girls was meant to be presented on two screens with only one of the two available soundtracks being played (the projectionist could choose which two soundtracks to use). The film had some kind of truncated showing in London soon after the New York premiere in 1966.In 1968 it received its first intact screenings in London, with the two screens simultaneously showing the different reels of film as intended. For that four-day event, pop illustrator Alan Aldridge created this poster for the London Arts Laboratory. The young woman in it is Chare Shentsone, 16, a budding artist who later became close to Francis Bacon. There was an edition of this poster printed in 1968 to be posted outdoors over London. No examples of that 1968 printing are known to have surfaced. Then, in 1970, Aldridge authorized this… Read More
