Notable scratching and marking to boards, including small droplet marks to rear board. Heavy tanning to spine, which has moderate crushing and tearing to ends. Small pen scribble to front board. Spine lettering darkened.

Binding remains firm. Boards have mild edge-wear with slight rubbing to surfaces and bumping to corners. Visible wear marks to spine and boards. Moderate liquid stains to front, more pronounced to rear.

Red speckled text block edges. Book has been rebound. Pages have light tanning and foxing throughout. More pronounced to text block edges. Water markings with slight scuffing from title page up to page 11. Occasional water markings to edges of some pages, text remains unaffected. Previous owner's inscriptions in pencil and sticker residue to both pastedown. Boards have noticeable edge wear with corner bumping. Mild tanning to spine and edges with some crushing to spine ends. Leather peeling to edges and corners with noticeable scuffing. Small areas of loss to marbled paper covering rear board. Scuffing to both boards. Gilt decorations to spine are slightly faded, however lettering remains bright and clear.

Heavy thumb-marking present throughout with notable staining to several pages. Hinges are cracked with exposed netting. Cracking to gutters, with exposed netting. Binding has weakened but remains intact. Rear endpaper missing. Tissue guard tanned. Front free endpaper loosening but attached. Boards have heavy edge-wear with bumping to corners, crushing to spine ends and rub wear all over. Prominent split to upper front joint and considerable fraying and notable loss to cloth at spine ends. Brown spotting to boards. The spine is notably tanned. The book has a marked forward lean.

Notable foxing and tanning mainly to endpapers, page edges and text block edges. Some gutter cracking. Endpapers have strips of tanning caused by jacket. Mild wear and bumping to spine, board edges and corners, with scuffing and marking across the boards. Small splits (approx. 1cm) and crushing to spine ends. Top dust jacket has been price clipped, the second remains unclipped (15s). Both have extensive tape repair; large tears and pieces missing. Notable tanning to spines, with notable creasing, foxing and soiling all over both jackets. Both have small stains (approx. 1cm), but the top has more across it.

Author is Michael Hawke, not directly stated. Latin dedication to 'Principi, Patri Patriae' ie Cromwell. Pages are heavily tanned and thumbed at the edges. Heavy foxing throughout. Crossed-out inscriptions to title page, with noticeable marginalia throughout. Large surface tear to front pastedown. Hinges and guttering are cracked. Binding is loose. Small burn mark to 2nd to last page of adverts, causing small hole. Boards are a little rub worn with slight shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are a little bumped. Some pencil marginalia and underlining. Heavy cracking to gutters. Rear board detaching, front board already detached. Boards have heavy wear with bumped and abraded corners.
