One of an edition of five hundred copies (of which the first twelve were to be signed by Duncan). This copy bears his signed presentation inscription to his chief trade publisher at the time, James Laughlin, and is also initialed and dated at the end of the text. BERTHOLF A42a.

Also inscribed by Roger White, her younger brother, on the page. "to Walter Denilow 9/4/56 with the thought that you especially might enjoy this. Roger White." Spine topedge cloth very slightly pushed and faint, beginning toning on the pastedown and endpage front and back hinges. New York: Scribners, 1901. 2 vol. set in very good conditon with inscription in volume I to Melvin L. Gray who managed Field's father's estate on behalf of Field who was considered by his family and contemporaries a spendthrift. Inscription reads: "To Melvin L. Gray, In recognition of the debt, I must always owe for favors and assistance in the making of this study of his eccentric and even lovable ward. With the grateful acknowledgements of Slason Thompson, Dec. 10, 1901.). A number of the Fields-Grey correspondence are contained in the two volumes.

[New York]: Nadja, 1986.. Quarto. Cloth, paper label. Some small smudges in the upper spine corner of the lower board, otherwise about fine. First edition, clothbound issue. One of an unknown number of unnumbered copies bound thus, in addition to 26 lettered copies, and 100 numbered, and some unnumbered copies, in wrappers, all signed by the author and the artist. This was the poet's own copy, inscribed to him by the artist ("Thanks De") on the colophon, with an original pencil drawing (with colored highlights) of two figures, seemingly the poet and the artist, on the colophon. Snodgrass's library blindstamp appears in the upper forecorner of the free endsheet.

Very good, with some wear to extremities, and lacking a pictorial cover illustration. Colour frontis. 304 pages, and 18 pages of publisher's ads. An important association copy, with a full page , handwritten dedication to Isabel Thorn, who is credited on the dedication page. Author's handwritten presentation on the front endpaper, also credits Thorn with helping to create Sanders and Bosambo. Three printed poems of Wallace are tipped to the front paste down, and the 2 endpapers, following the presentation inscription. The signature is dated " the day of the blockade, Feb. 18, 1915. This copy came from the library of Frederick Niven, who was married to Isabel Thorn's daughter, Mary. There are also some annotations to the Contents page, probably in Thorn's hand, but impossible to be sure..

Essentially fine, with only the slightest traces of use. at extremities. An apparently unread copy. # 767 of 1025. Gilt stamped bevelled boards Top edge gilt. Laid in is a signed, handwritten letter to his friend, and frequent correspondant, Canadian author Frederick Niven. References in this 2 page letter ( 1 sheet, both sides ), included along with some personal things, are critical thoughts on the " new reading public ", Thomas Hardy, Charles Lamb, Hitler, and Murder in the Cathedral. It is dated 1939. An interesting association cop, of one of Tomlinson's most respected works..

Edge wear. ; 9.10 X 6.20 X 1.20 inches; 294 pages; Original unclipped dust jacket All domestic orders shipped to be protected from moisture, etc. ASSOCIATION COPY, inscribed to Regis Philbin and his wife Joy in 1994 on the Notre Dame campus where the author was a professor. This was in Regis' personal library and was purchased directly from the estate. A very personal inscription to Joy mentioning their daughter JJ. The author was one of JJ's professors. JJ went on to become a screenwriter for Saturday Night Live, the OC, and later an executive producer on shows like Coupling and Heroes.

Dawes Oct 20th 1935Note: Sherman was a U.S. Senator from Illinois from 1913-1921. Senator Sherman was one of the more colorful characters in the Senate. As one of the group of senators known as the "irreconcilables" or the "bitter-enders", Sherman opposed the ratification of the Treaty of Versailles and of U.S. involvement in the League of Nations, and according to Historian Aaron Chandler, played a key role in its defeat. He characterized the treaty as "humanitarian in purpose, but impracticable in operation", and believed the league would be weak.Laid in is original card stock invitation for the 50th Wedding Anniversary of the Dawes in Evanston in 1939. Signed by author in black pen to ffep: "Theodore Francis Powys," with Kenneth Hopkins' ownership signature in pencil above, dated July 1937, bookseller note in pencil to front pastedown. Hopkins has made occasional brief marginal notes, in blue and red pen and pencil, and drafted, dated, located (with some specificity) and signed a poem ("Because there is no happiness – you say –") in pencil on recto of rear fep: "9.30 July 28 1937/ outside Trinity Church, Bournemouth." A chronicle of the IX Corps, written by seven different veterans. The name of a former owner is written in a neat hand on the front fly leaf: "Serg. John A. Fisher Northfield Mass." He is listed in the book on pages 171 and 369, as being wounded at Spottsylvania, before being discharched in 1864. Also, according to a separate note inserted in the book, Fisher's cousin was Joseph Austin Harris, listed on page 371; discharged in 1865.
