(prev owner's name on the front pastedown, dj has some sunning to the spine.) . First printing. Wonderful story of a little girl in Los Angeles's Chinatown (moy moy means little sister) Illustrated in both duotone and full color, with 3 two-page spreads in full-color. Bright and beautiful. Uncommon first edition, with the 'A' and the date 8-60 on the copyright page, but in a later dustjacket.

Garden City, New York:: Doubleday,, 1942.. Hardcover first edition -. Pencilled notation indicating that this was from a store's lending library - stamp of store on endpaper, but no other markings. The dustjacket was originally covered by an old-style protector with black edges - and these black edges left some marks on the endpapers. Otherwise the book is in very good condition and the dustjacket is in exceptionally good condition - bright and attractive with only the slightest bit of fading to the red on the spine, and a small amount of dampstaining visible on the upper corner of the front flap. . First US printing. A Crime Club selection. An Inspector Arnold mystery, published in the UK as 'This Undesirable Residence.' An uncommon title by this writer (who also wrote mysteries under the name of John Rhode.)

Just about fine in a very good dustjacket (bright white with none of the usual toning, but a closed tear on the lower edge of the front cover - which unfortunately had been tape-repaired on the interior and the discoloration from the tape shows thru - a lovely copy of the book, and a still attractive dj.) . First printing. Dubus's first - and only full-length - novel, a story of military life in peacetime, but in essence about the conflict between idealism and expediency. Dubus served for 5 years in the US Marines and knew well the world of which he was writing. In comments quoted on the back cover, Richard Yates described this as a 'fine, tense, wholly absorbing novel. You can read it at one sitting and miss none of its power, but it deserves to be studied for the skill of its construction and the complexity of its interlocking ironies.'

The popularity of Seaman's books means that it is uncommon for the earlier titles to be found in dustjacket at all, and it is rare to find a copy with both the book and the dustjacket in such exceptional condition. Spine straight, pages white with no toning, corners sharp, the cream dust jacket with black lettering and illustration has only the very slightest of edgewear, a little rubbing on the folds. (the young lady who kept this book in such good condition did write her name and 1935 on the front endpaper.). 4th printing. Novel originally published in 1926, and set on the remote New Jersey coast. Despite the fact that this had several printings, it remains one of Seaman's more difficult to find titles in any edition. First printing. A very scarce and fragile issue, primarily notable for containing the first appearance of Howard's "The Garden of Fear," the first story in the James Allison series. This second issue of the short-lived Marvel Tales series, published by William L. Crawford (who also owned a printing press) had 3 variant covers - in different colors and on different paper stock: this copy is orange with a green woodcut illustration and black lettering superimposed on the illustration. Born in Fresno, California, Politi studied art in Italy, but when he returned to California he settled in Los Angeles near Olivera Street. Included in the story is the music to three songs. INSCRIBED by Politi on the page facing the title page "Horace with best wishes from Juanita and me" and dated in 1950. The large 'H' in Horace is embellished with watercolor paintings of flowers.
