"Really intense and progressive people count the calories in carrots and the vitamins in veal and advise us to live on raw cabbage.This book is not for them,but for the bad lots who openly admit that they like the pleasures of the table and who enjoy life".

Macmillan & Co. Ltd. London. 1926. REPRINT of 1881 edition. 8vo.(6.1 x 4.2 inches). Engraved portrait of Browne on the title page. A fine, clean copy in an attractive early leather binding by Bumpus. Full green calf. The spine with raised bands. Compartments with blind ruling and lettered in gilt. Twin gilt ruled borders on inner boards, around plain white endpapers. All edges gilt. Spine is faded to brown but overall this is still a very presentable copy.

Methuen & Co ltd. London. 1931. FIRST SHEPARD EDITION. 8vo. (7.3 x 5 inches). The 38th edition overall, this is the first time the story was published with Shepard`s beautiful line drawings. A little light foxing to just a few pages but overall a very good copy, finely bound, by Riviere Bookbinder of Bath, in early half dark blue calf. Spine with five raised bands, each with gilt piping. Compartments lettered and ruled in gilt. Navy blue cloth on boards. All edges Marbled. Blue marbled endpapers. School prize plate from Charterhouse on the front pastedown endpaper, dated 1932, signed by Frank Fletcher, the headmaster and presented to G. C. Riall. School arms stamped in gilt to the front board. The spine fo the book is rubbed and darkened but still an attractive copy of the lovely book.

Fine early binding of full tan calf. Both boards with blind stamped decorative design within a gilt ruled line border. Spine with decorative gilt bands, the compartments blind decorated and lettered in gilt. Board edges with gilt decorative roll design. Marbled endpapers. Gilt inner dentelles. All edges gilt. Some rubbing and minor bumping to the corners but overall a very good and attractive copy of this charming and unusual little book, a fantasy voyage through the perspective of household objects. The book is undated, but the Bibliotheque Nationale de France catalogue gives the publication date as 1828.

Near Fine, tidy pencil notations verso of fold-out map at rear of tome II, original map wrappers of tome I bound in at rear. A quite handsome set. . First Complete Edition. Half Calf. Near Fine. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

Fine leather bound set in recent full dark blue morocco leather. Spines with raised bands, red title labels, and gilt ruling, lettering and decorations of Rampant lion device stamped to spine compartments. Single gilt ruled border on boards. All edges gilt. Some very minor spotting to a few pages of the first volume otherwise a surprisingly bright and fresh set throughout, and uncommon thus. A superior set of Churchill's great war account.

Beautifully illustrated with 8 full colour plates and 95 listed line drawings in the text, many full page, plus a few small vignettes, not in the list of illustrations. Finely bound in recent full dark green Morocco leather binding. Spine with five raised bands. Compartments ruled, lettered and decorated in gilt. Single gilt ruled line border on boards. Marbled endpapers. Top edge gilt. Original illustrated front board and spine bound in. Some offsetting to the half title and the last text page but generally a very good clean and bright copy throughout in an attractive leather binding.

Green endpapers, marbled edges, general index. The hidden part of the front inner hinge is cracked (the back partially), minor scuffing and a dampstain to the edges of the bottom corner. Author was a one time MP and a London merchant who spent many years as comptroller of corn returns for the Board of Trade. He was commissioned to write a report on the Corn Trade and Corn Laws and was an advocate for the repeal of the Corn Laws.
In addition to the report on the Trade in Corn in some of the States of Northern Europe, this book includes sections on the Commerce of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azoff and also Observations on the Benefits arising from the Cultivation of Poor Soils.
Book is in very good condition with raised bands on spine and morocco label. Spine and corners in leather. Leaves are remarkably clean and no significant age toning. Edges sprinkled. No inscriptions or markings except for previous sale price in pencil on first blank and on rear pastedown. No foxing or spotting.
Armorial bookplate on front pastedown.
