George Brown was a 17th-century Scottish mathematician best-known for his invention the Rotula Arithmetica, a math tool used to aid in addition. His final book was 'Arithmetica Infinita' in which Brown offered a complete set of currency tables showing values fixed by the Privy Council of the United Kingdom.

1689 Mathematics Arithmetic Multiplication Tables Accounting French Barreme
François-Bertrand Barrême was a 17th-century French mathematics professor best-known for his contributions to accounting and arithmetic. In fact, Barreme's name has become synonymous with 'barremes' tables which are arithmetic tables showing the results of multiplication. Barreme's mathematical processes and arithmetic examples are included in this 1689 printing of his book 'Learning Arithmetic: On Your Own'.

Carlo Renaldini was a 17th-century Italian mathematician who is best remembered for his book 'The Art of Analytical Mathematics'. In it, Renaldini covered algebra, geometry, and basic mathematics principles through and analytical and philosophical lens. This appears to be a first edition that was rebound many years ago. The only publication date shown is 1808). The pages, binding and print are consistent with a 200 year old book. The front cover has separated from the binding. However, the cord binding is still tight. There is foxing on many of the pages; however, all the pages seem to be easy to read. There is a pull-down chart at the beginning of the book which is still whole with only light foxing. (see photos). The book is entirely in French.

1551 RARE Peter Apian Cosmographia Astronomy Navigation AMERICA Map Mathematics

Peter Apian was a 16th-century humanist who is remembered for his studies in astronomy and mathematics. His best and most-known work was his book on cosmography which was extremely influential into the 17th-century. In this work, Apian discusses navigation by use of astronomy, utilizing woodcut illustrations to depict aspects of astronomy and navigation. Other illustrations include zodiac characters, planets, maps, and navigational instruments.

Perhaps the most important aspect of this book is that it is one of the earliest works relating to America. In 1507, Martin Waldseemuler printed a map which included the word 'America' for the first time. 'Cosmographiae Introductio' was published as an accompaniment to that map.
