Very Good. hardback. 1st Edition. hardback, two volumes complete, first and only edition, folio, 18" x 11", bound in polished green half-morocco, raised bands to spines with central gilt straps, lettered gilt to spines, top edges gilt, remaining edges rough-trimmed, contemporaneous marbled boards and endpapers. Rubbed to extremities of boards with knocks to leading corners, one of two surface abrasions to the leather, trace of a worm hole to the upper joint of volume one adjacent to the top raised band. The bindings are tight and the stitching very good, bookplates of a previous owner on pastedowns have been effaced and part removed, small address label of a later owner has been applied upside down to the pastedown of volume two. The plate list calls for the inclusion of thirty-six plates, all of which are present and two of which are double-page, at the foot of the Plate List is mounted an additional instruction to the binder for the inclusion of a further three plates. These are also present. Four large folding maps by Thomas Eyre, revised by Thomas Jefferys and engraved by William Fadden, one or two with creased mis-folds. Of the plates, the portrait frontis and one other are heavily foxed, a handful with minor foxing, the majority clean, all are unmarked. Some browning and spotting to the pre-lims but the majority of the text is uncommonly clean. List of Subscribers to the rear of volume II, pp vi + 610 & 672 [ii].
