Malcom Duncan's "Masonic Ritual and Monitor" is a rare 19th-century guide to freemasonry, focusing primarily on traditional degrees and ceremonies. This book; however, is rooted in controversy. Other masonic guides (such as Turnbull, Everett, and Denslow) state that Duncan uses incorrect oaths for degree candidates and is better suited for historical purposes rather than for 19th-century accuracy. Duncan also includes an explanation for the word 'Jahbulon', used in Royal Arch passwords.

An excellent, fine book. Some evidence of rubbing to top and bottom edges of slipcase, else near fine.

A fine 19th-century family Bible published by Samuel Bagster and Sons. This decorative Family Bible is also bound by Bagster who began printing and binding Bibles in the early 1800s. This 'Holy Bible' is beautifully illustrated with full-page color maps and philological and explanatory notes throughout with tables and indexes for the scriptures. And while the title page of this edition is not dated, the date comes from the preface and is generally agreed upon to be dated 1846.

Amsterdam: Jan ten Hoorn, 1693. First Dutch Translation. Leather. Very good.. 6 1/4 x 3 3/4 x 2(width) inches (16 x 9 .5 x 5(width cm), brown leather, gilt lettering in red box on spine, slight wear to extremities, bookplate pasted on front endpaper, with a picture of man looking through a device, and the "man is lost." The name on the bookplate is Norman Travis. Age toning around edges of endpapers and flyleaf. Various illustrations of alchemy equipment, plus, two fold out pages of equipment in very good condition. The book is divided into separate sections each with it's on pagination. About (40) of the pages have dark stain on corners but not obscuring print. As of April 2024 no copies found in the trade or OCLC.

This book is the first collaboration between longtime friends Octavio Paz and Robert Motherwell and contains 27 lithographs by Motherwell, including cover-label, each accompanied by a poem by Paz. Text in Spanish is in red and the English translation is in black. Large folio, cloth with mounted lithograph, clamshell box; light wear. One of 750 numbered copies signed by both Paz and Motherwell of which this is number 77. Some light foxing.

[CIVIL WAR] [African American Military] Partly printed discharge document for Private. Philip Pledger, Company B, 20th Regiment United States Colored Troops. New Orleans, 1 June 1865.As recorded on this official US Army discharge document, Pledger enlisted in January of 1864 for 3 years' service, and was mustered into Company B of the 20th USCT. He was discharged for disability on 1 June 1865 at "Corps d'Afrique U.S. Gen. Hosp" in New Orleans. Pledger, was described as having a "Black complexion, Black eyes," and "Black hair," and being a barber by trade. The document states that Pledger was born in Pennsylvania, but a Madison County, New York record notes the existence of a Philip Pledger who was a resident of DeRuyter, NY, served in the war as a private in Co. B, 20th United States Colored Troops and was born in South Carolina, likely a slave.
