Externally a bit grubby and fingerprinted, hinges good, text block sound with a bit of separation between some sections but no loosened pages, pages lightly age-toned but clean with no names or other markings.. Publisher's blue cloth; the inner hinges are beginning to crack but the book is still sound and doesn't need rebinding; there is slight wear at the headcap and the corners are bumped; the text and illustrations are good and clean. First edition of this rare account of the American intervention in Siberia.

Paris:: Firmin-Didot freres, 1844., 1844. 8vo. vi, [2], 415, [1] pp. Light foxing. Contemporary quarter dark green morocco, gilt-stamped spine, marbled boards; a hint of rubbing to extremities. Very good. Second edition. The author, an Imperial Russian classical scholar, best remembered as an influential imperial statesman under Nicholas I of Russia.

This is an exceedingly rare book. A Museum Archive claims that it was printed, perhaps in secret, by the CPA or CLP in late 1918 or 1919. Those organizations were driven underground and would not have had the resources to print this book. The book itself is a collection of photographs on 'somewhat glossy, relatively robust, relatively archival paper.' The photographs are famous- I have seen them used in textbooks. There is NO title page. The text is in both Russian and English. The covers are worn, but the pages and photos are in Fine condition. The binding is a tied cord that may be removed to take our individual photographs.

Binding split at back board and after flyleaf in the front but binding remains attached. Occasional underlining and staining throughout. Exterior shows its age. Spine is sunned; covers and all edges and corners are rubbed; all corners lightly bumped; some staining to spine. Despite all this, it is still an interesting solid copy of a very, very scarce title.
According to the Trotsky Internet Archive, "This book is very rare and, to our knowledge, been published only once, by Blue Ribbon Books, a now defunct New York publishing house, in 1925. Sandro Fasini was a pseudonym for Kiev born artist Srul Aryevich Fainzilberg. S. Fasini was a Russian and French surrealist artist, illustrator, and photographer who trained at the Odessa Art School and died in Auschwitz in 1942. He was also known as Sandro Fazini, Alexander Fasini, and Srul Feinsilberg. He is remembered for his artistic contributions to cubism and surrealism.
