The first two are first printings rebound in red half-leather bindings, the third, which was issued 17 years later by a different publisher, is bound in the original blue cloth with gilt insignia on front. All three books are in very good condition, the older two (1909) are Fine inside with normal usage to the boards--corners are worn down and edges have some wear,. But the binding is tight, the rough-cut paper inside is crisp, clean and unspotted, and the tissue guards over the many pictures are intact. Gilt on leather spine is bright; Five raised bands. The purview of the books is the history and career of the Life Guards, Horse Grenadier Guards and Royal Horse Guards. The books have maps and plans in the text. A handsome three-volume set. 4to. First edition, first printing, with all the first edition points (1929 on title page and copyright page, "stoppped" on page 181). Binding is straight and firm. Corners are sharp. Black cloth is sunned along edges and has light wear. Front label is darkened, the tip of one corner is folded over, and there is light wear to it. Spine label is darkened and has three vertical cracks. Pages are clean, paper is lightly tanned. From the library of writer James Alden Thompson and Margaret Carrigan Thompson, with their names inked on front pastedown and dated 1926. There is also an inked message on front free endpage that reads, "To Jim, Please read and tell me what you think of this [Ceegee?]."
