First Edition Identification

Though it is considered one of the most durable works in American Literature, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer was actually first published in London by Chatto and Windus in June of 1876. It wasn't until six months later, in June of 1876, that the first American edition was published by American Publishing Co. in Hartford, Connecticut. However, the first American edition can sell for upwards of $90,000, while the true first editions sell for closer to $10,000.

Other Collectible or Notable Editions

The first Canadian edition of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer was published by Belford Brothers in Toronto in 1876. This edition precedes the first American edition, but sells for around $800.
