Description:
Quality Paperback Book Club, 1987. Softcover. Very Good. In Very Good+ condition. Legs inaugurated William Kennedyâs celebrated cycle of novels set in Albany, New York. True to both life and myth. Legs evokes the flamboyant career of the legendary gangster Jack âLegsâ Diamond, who was finally murdered in Albany, and his showgirl mistress as they blaze a trail across the tabloid pages of the 1920s and 1930s. The second novel in the Albany cycle depicts Billy Phelan, a slightly tarnished poker player, pool hustler, and small-time bookie, as he moves through the lurid nighttime glare of a tough Depression-era town. Full of Irish pluck, he works the fringes of Albany sporting life with his own particular styleâuntil he falls from underworld grace. In the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, Ironweed , Francis Phelan, ex-ballplayer, part-time gravedigger, and full-time drunk, has hit bottom. Years ago he left Albany after killing a scab…

Description:
New York: Quality Paperback Book Club, 1987. This oversized paperback, containing all three of the novels that take place in Albany, New York, was published specially by the Quality Paperback Book Club for its members. The book is in Fine, unread condition. (The third novel in this collection, Ironweed, was made into a movie starring Meryl Streep and Jack Nicholson.) The book measures 5 1/4 by 8 1/4 inches. Each section is separately paginated, and the total is about 815 pages. (Being originally from Albany myself, I'm grateful to the movie company for restoring the Boulevard Restaurant on Central Avenue to the way it was in the 1930s. This historic Art Deco restaurant was dead as Marley's Ghost but was given a new lease on culinary life. However, I don't know if it's still surviving in the current economic climate.). Oversized Soft Cover. Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
