The Count of Monte Cristo is an adventure novel by Alexandre Dumas, often considered one of Dumas' most popular works alongside The Three Musketeers. The story takes place in France, Italy, and islands in the Mediterranean during the historical events of the Bourbon Restoration through the reign of Louis-Philippe of France. It tells an incredible story of vengeance, following the journey of a wrongfully imprisoned man.
First edition identification
The most common English translation was originally published in 1846 by Chapman and Hall. This was originally released in ten weekly installments from March 1846 with six pages of letterpress and two illustrations by M Valentin.
Chapman and Hall, London, released a 2 volume set of the translation in May 1846, featuring twenty illustrations.

This is an epic amazing adventure which should be on everyone's list to read before dying. This was actually my 2nd time reading it. I guess when I 1st read it years ago, it must have been an abridged version and I didn't appreciate the scope and prose of Dumas' storytelling. Reading the unabridged over 1200 page book is definitely the way to go to get the full import of this magnificent story. Once you start it, you become so involved in it that you almost forget to participate in everyday life and feel that you can't wait to get back to reading it.
