The Sword of the Lictor (The third book of "The Book of the New Sun") by Gene Wolfe Hardcover First Edition - First Printing New York: Timescape, Simon & Schuster, 1982. Dust jacket art by Don Maitz. $15.95 cover price. Reportedly only 6000 copies produced. SIGNED and inscribed by Wolfe on the title page with Maddie, referring probably to his daughter.

Fine in Fine- Dust Jacket, a superb copy with straight corners and clean boards, with a touch of aging to the text-block, and a couple of pin-size nicks to the upper edge of the front of the jacket, and a hint of a crinkle to the upper spine, else quite a nice clean copy.

NOTE on edition: The Book of the New Sun series was published by Timescape (a subsidiary of Simon & Schuster US) and Sidgwick & Jackson UK from 1980 to 1983. In the US The Shadow of the Torturer (4000 copies) and ending with The Citadel of the Autarch (about 10,000 copies). No other trade hardcover editions of these books appeared in English. (There were separate book club editions and one bc omnibus from circa 2000.) From 2007 to 2012, Centipede Press did a 100-copy limited edition of each of the BOTNS titles in large format which are almost impossible to find and typically priced at $1000+ each when they come on the market. (I sold a copy of The Claw of the Conciliator for about $750 a few years ago and it sold instantly. I have a copy currently available for sale for $950) IMPORTANT NOTE: All sales are generally FINAL. I do NOT accept returns because of buyer's remorse, "it was a gift but the recipient already had it", or "I found the same book(s) at a better price". I am not selling new items to compete with other retailers. Returns are only accepted because of significant discrepancies regarding edition and/or condition of which I try to be very thorough in researching the edition/printing as well as describing ALL condition issues.
