Writing primarily as a Medievalist, C. proclaims two main objectives: first, to show how Stoic influence, in cutting across the cultural boundaries of philosophy, literature, and law, has often been either exaggerated or inadequately recognized by scholars of different disciplines; secondly, C. wishes to 'orient the classical Latin writers to their medieval posterity.
