This is a sale catalog for an auction held at Sotheby's London on May 9, 1984. The auction consisted of Serge Lifar's collection of works of art, manuscripts and memorabilia from his years of working with Diaghilev and the Ballets Russes. There was one earlier sale of some of Serge Lifar's collection to the Wadsworth Atheneum in 1933. This 1984 sale contained all the rest of the materials in Serge Lifar's collection and was an historic event. There is a review of the sale from the New York Times laid in. The works in the collection sold for $1,150,000. Rarities in the sale included Diaghilev's working notebook, written in his hand, also albums of photographs by Baron de Meyer, a Debussy autograph score of 'Jeux' that contained annotations by the composer and Nijinsky. 227 lots in the sale.
